Shaw's Employees Present Special Gift of Comfort

11/2/10

shawsScott McKinnon (L), President & CEO, thanks Karen Farmer (far R), store director of Shaw’s Supermarket at 1150 Eastman Road, Center Conway NH , who presented a special gift of 24 pink Breast Cancer comfort pillows made by Shaw’s employees. The pillows are designed to provide pain relief, comfort and support for breast and Infusion patients.

“Cancer patients often ask for a small pillow to use while undergoing treatment, said Nancy Barber, RN, of MH’s Oncology and Infusion Center. “The comfort pillows will be very welcome gifts. The small size is very adaptable for use in a variety of positions.”

Patients scheduled for a long infusion, can use the pillow as an arm rest or to place under the neck to ease muscle strain. Adding a pillow between the knees can ease lower back pain. Following treatment, on the trip back home, many breast Cancer patients find it helps to place a comfort pillow between their upper-body and the seat belt to protect against chafing and to distribute pressure that might otherwise cause discomfort in the chest area.

One cancer patient described the value of the pillows this way: “The little pillow gave me comfort and reminded me that someone cared about my breast cancer journey.

The pillows are designed to provide pain relief, comfort and support for breast and Infusion patients.
