The art of local school children brings smiles and assistance to the Autistic Program at Children Unlimited, Inc.

10/21/10

Each year, volunteers at Memorial Hospital coordinate a display of local student art (more than 118 pieces of art work from area students in grades 1 – 12 from SAU 9, SAU 13, and SAD 72). In addition to bringing vibrant color and compelling images to the hospital’s hallways, and bringing smiles to visitors, the sale of note cards with reproductions of some of the images benefits Children Unlimited, Inc. (www.childrenunlimitedinc.com), a comprehensive children’s health service.

Each box of note cards, that sells for only $6.00, features a set of eight images. Proceeds from the sale of the cards, currently available in the Hospital’s Gift Shop, go to support the Autistic program at Children Unlimited, Inc. which is recognized nationally for its extraordinary commitment and dedication to serving the needs of young children.

Joan Lanoie, Director of Volunteers, who has spearheaded the program for the past five years, said: “Children Unlimited, Inc. has consistently been at the forefront of implementing innovative programs for young children, and we are pleased to help support the comprehensive treatment and evaluation services of their Autism Program. The smiles the art elicit from patients and their family members are very much in synch with the organization’s mission of nurturing hearts and minds.”
