Are you over 70 and 1/2 and have an IRA ? If you are, there is an exciting way you a can make a gift to Memorial Hospital.
Thanks to a two-year extension of the IRA rollover gifting option Memorial Hospital supporters like Jason Smith can make a gift of up to $100,000 to the hospital by simply directing the trustee of their IRA account to make a direct distribution to his community hospital. Jason is considering a gift distribution from his IRA of $15,000.
Although Jason cannot take a tax deduction on the gift, he will not pay any federal income tax on the $15,000 distribution. Jason will have removed a highly taxed asset from his estate, which may lessen the burden on heirs if there are funds in his IRA account when he passes on. Most importantly, Jason will have made a significant contribution to one of his favorite charities that he cares about.
If Jason makes his contribution before February 1, 2011, he can count this contribution in 2010, and he can still consider another contribution directly from his IRA any time through December 31, 2011.
There is still time to consider making a gift of this type and having it count toward 2010! If you wish to learn more, and receive instructions, please contact Jill Burrows, VP of Marketing & Development at 603-356-5461 Extension 198.
